Role Overview
As a Mortgage Loan Underwriter, you’ll be at the heart of the lending process. Using established Conventional, Jumbo, and Government underwriting guidelines, you’ll evaluate borrower financial and credit information alongside property valuations to make informed lending decisions. You’ll collaborate closely with our production team to ensure a smooth path from loan application to closing.
Key Responsibilities
• Underwrite and make decisions on agency conforming, Jumbo, FHA, and VA residential mortgage loans.
• Verify and analyze financial documentation and ensure loan files are complete with all necessary credit and legal documents.
• Review appraisal reports to identify and resolve discrepancies.
• Conduct thorough analysis of applicant’s income, expense data, asset documentation, credit reports, and property valuations to ensure they qualify for the loan.
• Calculate qualifying ratios, assess creditworthiness, and provide risk assessments.
What We’re Looking For
• Proven experience underwriting VA, FHA, Conventional, and Jumbo Loans.
• At least 4 years of underwriting experience.
• Experience with FNMA, FHLMC, and Non-Conforming mortgages is a plus.
• Familiarity with Desktop Underwriter (DU) and Loan Prospector/Loan Product Advisor (LP/LPA).
• Solid understanding of the mortgage lending process.
• Ability to perform key loan calculations (DTI, LTV, etc.) and prepare detailed findings reports.
• Capacity to manage multiple files simultaneously with strong attention to detail.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Team-oriented with a proactive approach to professional growth.
