Senior Staff Accountant – Remote | WFH

Position Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Financial Accountant to join our team. In this role, you will report to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and support the management and growth of a substantial investment portfolio, as well as oversee various development efforts. Your primary responsibilities will include preparing financial statements, managing investments, and… ensuring accurate accounting for gifts and endowments.

Key Responsibilities

Collaborate with third-party administrators to reconcile investments and related activities, including preparing journal entries for investments and fund accounting.

Analyze and ensure investments are accurately valued and earnings on private investments are correctly calculated and collected.

Maintain accurate books and records for majority-owned private businesses and complete monthly account reconciliations.

Reconcile bank and investment activities on a monthly basis and prepare documentation for external audits.

Work closely with the Gift Processing Team to record restricted and unrestricted cash receipts.

Assist with the monthly close process and maintain an organized accounting filing system.

Implement and enforce accounting policies, ensuring compliance with all GAAP and FASB standards for nonprofit organizations.

Provide cash flow forecasts related to endowment distributions and coordinate with investment advisors to meet cash needs.

Support the CFO with various strategic and financial tasks as needed.

Travel Requirements

Some travel required, up to 10%, within the region or to investment and development conferences.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.

2-5 years of experience in investment accounting; CPA certification preferred.

Strong understanding of generally accepted accounting practices and standards.

Proficiency with computer systems related to financial affairs, especially accounting software and spreadsheets (primarily Microsoft Office).

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present information effectively to individuals and groups.

Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.

Working Conditions

This role is based in a typical office environment, with some stress due to evolving business needs, tight deadlines, and heavy workloads.

Standard work hours are Monday through Friday, with the flexibility to attend meetings or training sessions that may occur evenings or weekends.
