Responsibilities:
• Strategic professional who closely follows latest trends in own field and adapts them for application within own job and the business.
• Responsible for the financial analysis, risk assessment and credit structure recommendation for cash flow lending products.
• Complete in depth analysis of financial data and other information provided by the client and/or banker in the field
• Oversee deal approvals including timing of approvals and turnaround in collaboration with Independent Risk and business partners
• Supplement analysis with research and evaluations from a wide variety of sources to develop an assessment of client, competitor/ industry risks and trends for senior management and/or the Senior Credit Officer
• Monitor an assigned credit portfolio and complete periodic reviews; maintain a thorough understanding of the content and aggregate risks within the portfolio, trends and other key statistics
• Execute early warning procedures to promote preventative action where appropriate
• Assist in the development of appropriate procedures around approvals, underwriting, and portfolio functions in consultation with Independent Risk and senior business leaders
• Assist in the development of appropriate credit guidelines around proposed cash flow lending appetite in consultation with Independent Risk
• Assists revenue growth and contains credit losses, while managing risk within credit policy.
• Manage underwriting process for an increase credit request to an existing portfolio client.
• Pro-actively reach out to line partners, creating a shared learning environment between remote location and front office.
• Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm’s reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency.
Qualifications:
• 10+ years credit experience required
• Proven track record of successfully managing leveraged finance portfolios in the commercial lending space
• Excellent communication and diplomacy skills required in order to negotiate internally, often at a senior level and occasionally with external customers
• Thorough credit and analytical skills, knowledge of credit products
• Effective verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to train, recruit, and mentor teams of professionals; Bold in approach to approve sound credit and highly collaborative work style
Education:
• Bachelor’s/University degree

This Deputy Chief Underwriter position will be responsible working with team mates to oversee Home Equity and First Mortgage Risk Managers in their function of providing Credit Risk oversight of Fulfillment underwriters. This position is also responsible for reviewing high risk transactions and communicating Credit Risk appetite to Sales and Fulfillment partners.
Provides robust credit risk management across all mortgage channels by reporting on underwriter performance.
Works with teams that deliver a consistent, objective and sophisticated process of underwriter review.
Identifies credit risk, process trends and training needs within the body of underwriting work completed each month.
Calibrates variances with front-end QA, GSE and HUD requirements.
Assures precise and adequate sampling of underwriters’ work to make accurate assessments of underwriter decision making.
Evaluates the process of underwriter performance review to encapsulate all relevant decision making and calculations in the review.
Provides for competent discourse of rebuttals to variances and quick resolution of risk issues in loan originations.
Partners with front-end QA to provide seamless quality checks on all mortgage originations and correspondent fundings.
Identifies measures and reports on complex underwriting issues at the individual underwriter level and the macro level, across all mortgage channels.
Performs Other Duties And Functions As Assigned.
Qualifications:
10 years of mortgage banking experience with
5+ years of credit management experience.
Extensive experience with FNMA/FHLMC underwriting guidelines.
Extensive experience underwriting Conforming and Non-Conforming first mortgages, and Home Equity loans.
Experience underwriting FHA/VA and Community Lending programs is a plus.
Must have credit operations background and senior management experience in a large, high volume underwriting center.
Strong people management and leadership skills.
