Staff Accountant

The Minerva Group is currently seeking an experienced full-time, salaried Non-profit Accountant for our growing company. A Staff Accountant at The Minerva Group should be a self-starter that can work remotely from their home office. They are expected to take responsibility, be trustworthy, reliable, proactive and solution-oriented with their work. This individual will fill a key role within The Minerva Group by supporting multiple, small business clients in the preparation of balance sheets, income statements and other financial reports. Responsibilities also include analyzing trends, costs, revenues, financial commitments and obligations incurred to predict future revenues and expenses. They will report organizations’ finances to client management and offers suggestions about resource utilization, tax strategies and assumptions underlying budget forecasts.

A Staff Accountant should be familiar with standard accounting concepts, practices and procedures within multiple fields. They will rely on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. They will work under the general supervision of The Non-profit department lead; however, must be comfortable working independently and managing their time. A certain degree of creativity and latitude is required. This individual will support and advance the Mission, Vision and Beliefs of The Minerva Group.

Job Details
• This is a client-facing role and would directly handle multiple accounts
• Financial Analysis & Reporting – Support monthly financial reporting for clients, perform ad hoc analyses
• Bookkeeping – Support client monthly close process in various accounting systems, including transaction coding, bank reconciliations, A/P and A/R reconciliations, journal entries, run payroll, file 1099s for clients
• Complete the (TMG) Internal checklist for each client on a regular basis.
• Summarize current financial status and recommend actions by analyzing accounting options
• Maintain accounting controls by preparing and recommending policies and procedures when necessary
• Provide technical support, training and advice for QuickBooks and other third-party software as appropriate
• Participate in financial standards setting and in forecast process
• Assist in internal and external audits to ensure compliance
• Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls
• Communicate effectively with clients
• Contribute to a strong client relationship through positive interactions with client personnel
• Communicate with fellow teammates on work status and client issues that arise
• Find and resolve errors in financial reports; ensuring transactions are in accordance with GAAP and internal policies and procedures
• Track key financial metrics and run reports as needed
• Keep office and account files organized and up to date
• Some travel may be required to assist local clients with onsite needs and for company functions

Qualifications and Skills:
• Thorough knowledge of basic accounting procedures and principles
• Experience with creating financial statements
• Experience with general ledger functions and month/year-end close processes
• Thorough knowledge of grant & contract management and accounting
• Good understanding of Cost/Classes accounting
• Understanding of nonprofit financial management, including 990 preparation, nonprofit audits, FASB and GAAP requirements, and restricted funds management
• Excellent accounting software user and administration skills; including MS Office/G-Suite, QuickBooks, APD Payroll, QBO Payroll, etc.
• Know QuickBooks Online like the back of your hand and be flexible to learn other software as needed
• Accuracy and attention to detail
• Aptitude for numbers and quantitative skills
• Firm understanding of accounting and reporting standards
• Maintain timekeeping and personnel records
• Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with all levels of employees, management, and external agencies to maximize performance, creativity, problem solving, and results.
• Bachelors (or higher) degree in Accounting
• 3 years of experience in the finance function of a nonprofit organization

Pay: $45,000.00 – $60,000.00 per year
