Scope of Role
The Accountant performs a variety of general accounting tasks including updating and maintaining accounting journals, ledgers and other records detailing financial business
transactions. Verifies the accuracy of invoices and other documents or records. Compiles data and prepares a variety of reports. The incumbent will be responsible for working with internal employees and management or external vendors to reconcile reports, invoices and other financial documents. Essential Duties
• Ensures timely and accurate processing of accounts payable; receives, verifies, and posts accounts payable invoices into the accounting system. Includes three-way match principles and appropriate scrutiny of vendor invoices.
• Receives and reviews purchase orders, check requests, and/or other related documentation for completeness and compliance with financial policies, procedures, and contractual requirements.
• Receives credit card receipts and reconciles against corporate credit cards on a
• monthly basis.
• Follows up on account statements and other discrepancies regarding payment of
accounts; serves as liaison between departments and vendors in the resolution of administrative problems and inquiries.
• Reviews, audits, and processes employee expense reimbursements; verifies accuracy of expenses and adherence to company policies.
• Interacts with vendors and department managers when processing a resolution of account discrepancies.
• Creates invoices and maintains accounts receivable including but not limited to monthly sales, open invoices, and aging reports.
• Assists Controller in producing an accurate and timely month-end close; issues month-end financial reports to appropriate personnel in a timely manner.
• May be responsible for reconciliation of certain balance sheet accounts.
• Supports day-to-day operations.
• Assists in adoption of new accounting standards including but not limited to researching standards, assisting in the preparation of written accounting policy for company, and preparing new disclosures.
• Assists Controller with annual external audits.
• Receives checks and other company mail and prepares deposit slips; verifies remittances against business (only if the candidate is local) accounts; deposits checks daily.
• Maintains accounting department files and records.
• Enters information into accounting data entry system.
• Assists with special accounting projects as needed.
• Performs other related duties as assigned by management.
Specific Skills, Knowledge, Experience & Education Required
• Bachelor’s degree (B.A./B.S.) in accounting or finance preferred.
• Two to four years related experience or equivalent.
• Ability to work with all levels of management
• Acute attention to detail
• Demonstrated ability to plan and organize projects
• Proficient in Excel, and knowledge in Dynamics 365 a plus
• Ability to prepare reports and business correspondence.
• Demonstrated ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, and percentages.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills; able to manage priorities and workflow.
• Ability to work independently and as a member of various teams and committees.
