Job Description:
We are seeking an experienced Fiduciary Accountant to join our team in the Wall Street area of New York City. This role is crucial for preparing tax and information returns for trusts, estates, and charitable foundations. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in fiduciary accounting, with the ability to maintain detailed tax and accounting records for executors and… other fiduciaries who are clients of the firm.
Key Responsibilities:
• Assist trusts and estates attorneys in administering trusts, estates, and charitable foundations.
• Prepare federal and state estate tax returns, including asset valuation, organizing deductions, and computing accruals.
• Prepare federal gift tax returns and personal federal and state income tax returns.
• Prepare federal and state fiduciary income tax returns for various trusts, including charitable remainder unitrusts and estates.
• Prepare information returns for charitable organizations.
• Calculate executors’ and trustees’ commissions.
• Maintain detailed financial records for estates and trusts from inception to termination.
• Manage checkbooks and prepare detailed accountings for estate and trust settlements.
• Track and calculate taxes due, including estimated income tax payments, and assist in tax planning.
• Participate in federal and state tax audits.
• Provide financial information to attorneys and paralegals as needed.
• Maintain and organize tax and accounting files.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree required.
• Minimum of 10 years of experience as a fiduciary accountant in a bank, law firm, or public accounting firm.
• Familiarity with Thomson Reuters FPS (Onesource) Estate and Gift Tax and Accounting Programs is preferred.
• Familiarity with Wolters Kluwer Prosystemfx Tax Program (income tax software) is preferred.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Ability to maintain precise financial records and meet strict deadlines.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
• Availability to work additional hours as needed.
